An active holiday in the mountains rarely starts with a grand plan. More often it assembles itself: in the morning someone suggests a walk to the waterfall, after lunch the children drag everyone off to the tubing run, and by evening it turns out that everyone is tired and content.
What you can do at no extra charge
The simplest activities are already included in your stay — and they are usually the ones that eat up most of the day. The main one in the warm months is the aqua zone with its open-air 50-metre pool: heated water, a depth of 1 to 1.65 metres, and 200 loungers along the sides. In the cold season its place is taken by the indoor pool at the Boutique Hotel — water enriched with sea salt, around +28 °C.
This is not a decorative pool for photographs. The length of the lane and the steady temperature are why sports teams come here for training camps. If you swim seriously, the best time is the early hours before breakfast: the water is warm and the lane is free.
Also available at no extra charge are the gym (from 16 years), table tennis, the playground, the salt room and the infrared sauna. Breakfasts are included too — a small thing that matters when you have to set off on a trail early.
Winter: tubing, a snowmobile and bathing in the frost
The main winter attraction is tubing. A special surface keeps the run working all year, so in December you ride the tube over snow and in July down a dry slope. A single descent can be bought on its own, and there are packages of five and ten — in a package a descent costs noticeably less.
In winter a snowmobile runs on the grounds, and the ski slopes are right next door: Pylypets is about 10 km away, some ten minutes by car, and that is where the nearest lifts are. Within a 15 km radius are Izky, Podobovets and Slavske, so you can ski all day and come back to sleep in the quiet.

And a winter story of its own: wood-fired Carpathian hot tubs out in the open. Steam hangs over the water, snow sits on the rim, and inside is a hot herbal bath you step out of straight into the frost. There is somewhere to swim in winter too: the indoor pool at the Boutique Hotel is open all year. For most guests this is the strongest impression of the whole trip.
Summer: quad bikes, pedal boats and water
When it warms up, the action moves onto the water and onto the forest tracks. Pedal boats cross the lake — taken for 15 minutes or half an hour; that is enough to circle the water and see the resort from it. Quad bikes head out into the forest — a purely summer format, replaced in winter by the snowmobile.
In summer the grill kolyba by the lake is rented out for your own barbecue, and on the opposite shore stand a sauna and a Carpathian hot tub — handy if you plan to spend the whole day away from the buildings. The Shypit waterfall is 16 km away: a short drive or a long walk. From mid-July to mid-October one more pursuit is added, one that easily eats a whole morning — porcini mushrooms.
The mountains: Velykyi Verkh, Hemba and the Borzhava polonyna
The classic route for guests of the resort starts in Pylypets: the climb to Velykyi Verkh (1,598 m), the traverse to Hemba (1,491 m) and the descent back to Pylypets. Beginners walk this loop in roughly 8 hours — with pauses for water, photographs and lunch from a flask.
The Borzhava polonyna stretches for roughly 50 kilometres, so the route can be extended: the ridge from Velykyi Verkh to Stii takes 3–5 days and passes 17 named summits. In summer paragliders fly over Hemba and downhill riders race its slopes — even if you are not taking part, it is worth watching from the hillside. What to put in your rucksack and how to judge your strength is covered in the piece on your first mountain hike.

Fishing as an activity, not as waiting
The grounds have their own stocked mountain lake — trout, sturgeon and carp. The main difference from a wild river is that rods and all the tackle are provided free of charge: you pay only for the weight of what you catch and for the cooking.
The catch is cleaned and cooked in the restaurant kitchen, so dinner comes from what you pulled out of the water a few hours earlier. The terms and the season are described on the page about the summer pool and fishing, and the process itself is covered in more detail in the piece on fishing in the Carpathians.
A plan for rain and for a long evening
Mountain weather changes fast, so it helps to know in advance where to go when there is a wall of water outside. Everything listed below works whatever the season:
- Billiards. The best option when the group is grown-up and the evening is long.
- Air hockey. Fast, noisy and a sure hit with teenagers.
- PlayStation and arcade machines — prices are in the price list.
- The Fireplace Hall and table tennis — when you want neither screens nor the outdoors.
- The mini-farm — poultry, rabbits and cows you can photograph. It saves the day when the children need to move and it is pouring outside.

How to end an active day
After an eight-hour loop across Borzhava or a day on skis, the body asks not for more but for warmth. The shortest route is a wood-fired Carpathian hot tub: 10–15 minutes in the hot bath, then the contrast — the pool, a cold dousing or simply the frosty air, and so on for 2–3 rounds. A tub holds up to 6 people, so the whole group goes in together.
The Finnish sauna (70–110 °C, sessions of 8–12 minutes) and massage handle the same task: back 30 minutes, neck and shoulders 25 minutes, feet 20 minutes. The full list with durations and prices is gathered in the wellness section.
An active holiday is easiest to plan so that you never have to travel anywhere: the lake, the slope, the pool and the spa all sit on one site, and guests and luggage are driven from the car park by electric buggy. If the same programme has to be built for a team, that framework is covered separately — a corporate trip to the Carpathians. All that is left is to choose a cottage or a room — and decide what to start with tomorrow.
