The Valley of Daffodils is a natural wonder of Transcarpathia

According to scientists, the history of the Valley begins during the Ice Age. Yes, daffodils have been growing there for a long time. For approximately 630 million years, many natural events have occurred here: there were glaciers, the bottom of an ancient sea, the Carpathian Mountains grew, and later the current territory of daffodils turned into a flat valley. It is amazing that people have the opportunity to know such facts and see a natural phenomenon in the form of wild daffodils.

Let's explain the concept of "phenomenon" in a little more detail. The fact is that daffodils grow in the mountain ranges of the Balkans and the Alps at an altitude of 2 km, and in Ukraine at an altitude of only 180-200 m above sea level.

Scientists believe that the reason for the migration of flowers is connected with the melting of glaciers. Due to certain geological cataclysms, a large layer of fertile soil descended from the mountains, and daffodils moved with it. Over time, they adapted to new living conditions and began to multiply. And in this aspect, the Valley of Daffodils in Transcarpathia is unique, because it was created by nature, not by people.

Features of the reserve

Rare narrow-leaved daffodils grow in the Valley, of which there are approximately 60 species. They are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. There are about 3,000 ornamental varieties in the world.
