Carpathian lakes are the best places for summer vacation in the Carpathians

14 May 2019

When the suffocating summer heat is added to the eternal hustle and bustle of big cities, the need for freshness and clean air becomes almost insurmountable. I want to leave the sickening stuffiness behind and go to a place where the breathing is easy and fresh, at least for a few days. Where the wind smells of blooming grass, and the singing of birds echoes with the rustle of needles and the coolness of clear water. Probably, the only place where you can fully enjoy the space, freshness and coolness in the midst of the summer heat are the Carpathian lakes. Resting in the Carpathians in the summer near the lake is not only the cleanest water and air, the indescribable beauty of nature, but also the opportunity to touch the ancient legends of the mountains. Lake Nesamovyte, Lake Brebeneskul, Lake of Youth in Bukovel... Each of us has heard these names at least once in our life. But did everyone have the determination to leave the boring stuffiness and go on a summer vacation in the Carpathians near the lake? But it's so simple: documents, a little money, a minimum of necessary things, a train ticket, a transfer or enthusiasm - and a completely different world surrounds you.

Lake Nesamovyte

The first lake that you must see on your way to the Carpathians is the mystical Lake Nesamovyte. It is located on the southeastern slope of the Chornohirsky ridge, the highest mountain range in Ukraine. You have to look down on him. In combination with the wild beauty of the surrounding valley, Lake Nesamovyte creates an enchanting impression. Shallow, oval-shaped, it resembles the eye of an ancient monster, which from century to century stares intently into the sky, tracking the slightest changes in the surrounding world. The monster loves peace and quiet. Don't bother him. Otherwise, the mirror surface will shake, toss wildly, and his anxiety will immediately be reflected in the sky. It will darken, become tangled with low black clouds and break open with a sudden and devastating storm. Local residents have long believed in the mystical connection between the lake and the weather in the district. You can disturb the water surface - do not bathe or throw stones - otherwise the world around you will be alarmed. Perhaps that is why people do NOT settle in the vicinity of Lake Nesamovyte - the nearest dwelling is about 13 kilometers away. And they will have to be walked. Experienced tourists are advised not only to take warm things in reserve, but also not to go to the lake alone - newcomers often get lost here.

Lake Brebeneskul

Another interesting place for a summer hike is Lake Brebeneskull. They don't tell mystical stories about it... But why, if it can impress with facts? This is the highest lake of the Carpathians. Located at an altitude of 1801 meters above sea level. And it is very cold. The water temperature in Lake Brebeneskull never rises above 15 degrees, and the snow on the shores often lies until mid-summer. Despite the purity of the water, even fish cannot be found here - it freezes in winter. If you want drive, radical freshness and cold high mountain beauty, then this place is ideal. True, it is not so easy to get to Lake Brebeneskull - you can't do it on a weekend - the hiking route is designed for 3-4 days. You will have to prepare and equip yourself thoroughly.

Lake in Bukovel

Lake of Youth in Bukovel is another legendary lake of the Carpathians. True, this legend is another matter: modern and man-made. The Lake of Youth (aka the Bukovel Sea) is currently the most expensive lake in Ukraine. More than 150 million hryvnias were spent on its reproduction in its modern form. The creators of this attraction managed to combine the crystal purity of the Carpathian high mountain lake, the comfort of a modern seaside resort and a rich entertainment program. In summer, there is warm water and an active resort life. Unlike the hard-to-reach scenic lakes listed above, the Lake of Youth is perfect for a "lazy" vacation. It can safely be included in the list of "The best lakes of the Carpathians for swimming". And this place is worth visiting, if only to make sure that, if desired, Ukraine can also create wonderful places for recreation.

Khashchovan Lake

Lake Vita (former Lake Khashchovanske) is another successful example of the combination of the unique nature of the Carpathians and smart entrepreneurship. True, this lake has not undergone such radical changes as the Bukovel Sea - the surrounding territory, although well-kept, has been preserved practically in its original form.
This place is equally suitable for lovers of "lazy" romance and for active tourists who adore hiking with tents and immersion in the culture and traditions of the surrounding places. The cleanest water, which warms up well in the summer, a classic coniferous Carpathian forest that approached the very shore, a comfortable modern cottage town with full meals and an entertainment program. Here you can grill kebabs at any time, without worrying about firewood and without fear of sudden changes in the weather. Or go for a walk in the forest. And what is especially important for the realities of the Carpathians - Lake Vita is very easy to get to. Comfortable and regular transport connections have been established. By the way, the Internet is always available. A summer vacation in the Carpathians near Lake Vita is an almost ideal option for city tourists pampered by civilization.
