Where to go to the Carpathians in spring?
Visit the Carpathian lakes
Nothing beats local lakes. Water and mountains are a magnetic, magical combination. Not all reservoirs are safe, many of them are shrouded in legends and secrets. But each is unique and unforgettable.
Lake Synevyr
Synevyr is sometimes called Sea Eye. A romantic story of a girl from a rich family and a shepherd is connected with this lake. This tragic legend about two lovers must be told on every excursion. But even those who are not very interested in stories will enjoy the lake and the local scenery. By the way, if you come to Synevyr on your wedding day, you can be sure that you will have a happy family life.
Lake Brebenskul
Brebenskul is the highest mountain lake of the Carpathians. It looks very interesting, because it is located right between the mountain peaks. The main feature of the water in the lake is its bright blue color. This is a natural phenomenon, there is no danger in it. Some tourists even swim here, although the water temperature rarely rises above 13°C even in summer. If you are going to the mountains, be sure to plan a visit to Brebenskul, it will not leave anyone indifferent.
Dead (Zhuravlyna) lake
Crane Lake got its name from the Ukrainian word "crane". But picking berries here is not recommended. The lake is very deep and it is almost impossible to get out of it. Therefore, the local landscape is not so much soothing as frightening: the lake is not only beautiful, but also dangerous.
Lake Maricheyka
Maricheyka is one of the high mountain lakes. It is located at an altitude of 1510 m above sea level. Maricheyka is a shallow (maximum depth - only 1 m), but quite large lake. Pines and juniper grow on the uneven banks. A local legend is also connected with this place: it is said that Lake Maricheyka appeared from men's tears.
Visit waterfalls
A rare tourist does not want to visit local waterfalls when he goes to the Carpathians. And many of them should be seen just in spring, because thanks to the melting of snow, the amount of water in the rivers increases, and the waterfall becomes turbulent, especially beautiful. Let's list the most memorable sights.
Shipit waterfall
Shipit is first on our list for a reason. It is often called one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine and the most beautiful Transcarpathian waterfall. Many cascades, rushing water flows, a unique sound, similar to a whisper. All this attracts a huge number of tourists every year. Another legend about two lovers is connected with Shipit waterfall. They met on the bank of the river in secret, but the mother did not approve of such a union. In a rage, she caused a downpour that washed away both the boy and her daughter. Repenting, the mother repeatedly came to the place where the girl died. It is believed that the sound made by the waterfall is the whisper of an unhappy lover.
Manyava waterfall
Manyava Waterfall is not only a beautiful place, but also an area for relaxing. Here you can swim, sunbathe, rest and gain strength in a small healing lake next to the waterfall. There is also another small waterfall near the river. It is not so spectacular, but it is also very picturesque.
Bukhtivetsky waterfall
This waterfall is located in a mountain massif, so there are many beautiful places around. The water flow itself gathers speed on the rocky massif, and then falls in almost vertical jets to the foot of the rock. The stream then flows through a canyon-like valley
Probij waterfall
Probij is the business card of the resort town of Yaremche. It is located right in the village. You can't call it big: due to the melting of the forest, the waterfall quickly turned into a river with a large number of rapids. But the view is still very good.
Visit nature parks
Natural parks will definitely appeal to those who love different beautiful landscapes. There are ready-made routes that you can walk with friends and children without fearing for your safety.
Carpathian Park
The Carpathian National Park is located near Yaremche. It is beautiful and very diverse. There are mountains, lakes, green valleys, and rivers with waterfalls on the territory. There are ancient churches of the 16th-20th centuries. There are 48 routes laid out in the park, among which everyone can choose the one they like best. Animal lovers will especially like it: here you can chat with almost tame deer and wild boars. If you like to travel by bike, rent a suitable one near the market. There are many bike paths in the park.
Park "Skolivski Beskydy"
Another attraction of the Carpathians is the "Skolivski Beskydy" park. It covers the basins of the Stryi and Opir rivers. Convenient asphalt paths and short walking routes are organized for tourists. The fact that it is very harmonious especially pleases the guests of the park. Huge boulders, an ancient forest, swamps, the cleanest lakes - all this is combined with each other, flows from one to another. Wandering here is a pleasure.
What to do in spring in the Carpathians
Now that you know what to see in the Carpathians in spring, you can plan the main trips and excursions. But what if you still have time for leisure? The Carpathians and Transcarpathia are a place where you can have a great time! We offer the most popular activities for tourists in the spring.
Skis or snowboard
If you came to the Carpathians in March, you should think about going down several ski slopes. Sometimes in cold April, they also work at the beginning of the month - you need to check before the trip itself. Even if you are a beginner, it's okay. Experienced instructors will choose equipment and help you learn a new sport.
Climbing mountains
It is difficult to imagine a trip to the mountains without climbing them. There are many routes for hiking in the Carpathians. Part of the journey can be done on jeeps, and some equipment can be rented right before the tour. However, if you are planning a large number of ascents, we recommend that you immediately think over your wardrobe. Our experts will advise beginners what is best to take with them.
Cycling through the mountains
Convenient new bike paths allow you to reach a large number of attractions in the Carpathians. But trips through the mountains on special mountain bikes are of particular interest. You can bring your iron friend or rent a bike. If you are afraid to ride alone, join any bike tour.
Rafting
The end of April and May is a great time to learn rafting. Descent down a raging mountain river on a special inflatable boat (raft) will definitely be remembered for a long time. In the Carpathians, there are routes for both beginners and experienced rafters who like to fight with rushing mountain water with all their might.
Fishing
Fishing in the Carpathians is very diverse. There are many fish in various reservoirs. On the mountain rivers, you can catch chub, Danube salmon, small trout, and grayling. Near the tourist complex "Lake Vita" there are places where you can comfortably stay for fishing.
Bathing in tanks
Bathing in tanks is one of the ways of relaxation. The vats are located outdoors, so you can not only relax and steam, but also enjoy the local beauty. After the bath, be sure to immerse yourself in cold water: the temperature difference rejuvenates the skin and improves health. The water in the tank itself is usually mineral, it helps relieve stress, insomnia, and fatigue.
Gastro tour
Interesting dishes and original ways of preparing ordinary products attract a large number of gourmets to the Carpathians. If you like different types of delicious food, go on a gastro tour. We recommend tasting local beer, cheese and Transcarpathian wine, visiting a trout farm, catching and cooking trout right there. It is worth paying special attention to bee honey produced in the Carpathians. It has unique properties because bees use local wild grasses and flowers to gather. One of the apiaries is located on the territory of our hotel and tourist complex, so you can taste divinely delicious honey without leaving anywhere.
Jeeping
Jeeping is an easy way to see a lot of sights in one day. As a rule, the hike takes one day, sometimes there are options with an overnight stay. Reliable and powerful machines will take you instantly to places where you would have to walk for several hours. You can calmly enjoy the beauty of nature, have a picnic or a photo session. Jeeping is not for the timid and modest. This is a whole adventure in which you will have to overcome many obstacles, get a rush of adrenaline. Most often in the Carpathians, people go on jeeps to see the Borzhavsky Range: the places are relatively safe for cars, but very picturesque.
Photo sessions in the fields
The breathtaking view of the local fields is one of the reasons to take a photo here. But when going to a photo shoot, it is best to look at specialized tours or photo tours. They take into account the specifics of photography: the guides make parking in particularly beautiful places, know that the equipment must be handled carefully, show the background against which you can take a good shot. If you don't have your own photographer, you can find a specialist in Lviv. Beautiful places where tourists want to take pictures create a demand for experienced photographers. Such a person will not only make excellent photos for you, but will also help you choose the perfect place for posing.
Visiting festivals and holidays
Various festivals and holidays are held in the Carpathians throughout the year. In the spring, we recommend visiting the following events:
- "Red Field" rifle song festival. It takes place in Khust from March 11 to 13;
- festival of erotic literature "March cats". It is held in Uzhhorod. The action covers the entire city: exhibitions, shows, and literary evenings are held in its various districts;
- wine festival in Vynohradov. Suitable for those who want to taste local drinks. Held on April 16;
- festivals "Graylik", "Miss All Laughter", "Rainbow Circle", "Transcarpathian Edelweiss" - these are all events worth coming to Uzhhorod in April;
- holidays associated with the blooming of cherry blossoms and magnolias. They usually take place in April, but the exact dates cannot always be predicted, because everything depends on whether the flowers have bloomed. And even without any festivals, Uzhhorod becomes very beautiful in April;
- the festival of grape growers and winemakers in Vynohradov takes place in May.;
- the holiday "Leading livestock breeders to pastures". This is a historical holiday associated with the beginning of cattle grazing. Passes near Lake Synevyr.
There are also many holidays and festivals in Uzhhorod that have not yet become annual. You can go there specifically for a day to attend some event and return to an area where nature is much more picturesque and the air is cleaner. Many tourists like the option of one-day trips to some attractions. The "Lake Vita" complex has developed transfer routes that will help fill an ordinary day with new experiences. For example, we can take you to a boar farm, show you a thermal spring, some lakes and waterfalls, a deer nursery and an ostrich farm. These are popular routes on which a group is quickly recruited, so the trip will be quite inexpensive.
